We would like to once again thank everyone who has been with us through this whole experience. We would not have been able to stay as strong as we were without the support of all of you. Mom was always so glad and excited to hear of the comments that were posted daily. We appreciate all that you meant and still mean to Mom and our family.
We are taking things day by day and managing well, spending as much time together as possible.
The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 30, 2009, at Grace First Presbyterian Church in Long Beach. It is located at 3955 Studebaker Road, Long Beach, CA 90808.
The graveside service will be held immediately following at Forest Lawn in Cypress.
The Stephenson Home will be hosting a reception after the graveside service, all are welcome.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the update. I wanted to share one of my favorite Lisa stories with you. When I first met Lisa last August we had a meeting over at Hof's Hut. At that time she told me that I should feel very fortunate to be coming to Carver. Not only is it a great staff and student body. The school is the only elementary school with special day classes for Orthapedically Impaired students. She told me that whenever she began to feel the least bit sorry for herself, she went to visit the OI kids or went to the playground to visit. I took her advice and have spent considerable time with the students. Yesterday marked our 21st Special Olympics at Carver. I thought of Lisa as I watched the students play golf, toss beanbags play T-ball and on a daily basis I see some playing basketball. One student in particular stood out yesterday though. Danny is in pre-school. He does not have legs and his arms end just past his shoulders. When I saw him grinning from ear to ear yesterday as he learned to navigate his new power wheel chair I could hear Lisa's words. We have watched Danny learn to hold a crayon and a pencil without arms and now he is in "driver's training". Lisa would have been very excited for him, as she will be for De'Juan Campbell, who is also OI and receiving his award tonight as our most inspiring student. I know that Lisa will be there with us to cheer for De'Juan just as whe was at Carver yesterday promoting Danny and all those who persevere and make the most of their life. She lived her life with that model and she helped the rest of us whenever we began to lose sight of our potential.
