Tuesday February 17, 2009 & Wednesday February 18, 2009

We apologize that we were unable to post yesterday's update. We were experiencing some technical difficulties.

Yesterday Mom's progress took a step back. She was placed back on the ventilator at about 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. She is once again heavily sedated.

Today her vitals are stable. They will be performing a Tracheostomy procedure to insert a Trache tube. This will allow easier access to her airway and will be easier to manage weaning her off of the ventilator. It will also allow for her to rest more comfortably. Mom continues to rest and we continue to be by her side.

Thank you all again for your continued support and prayers!

  1. Dear all,
We just read Josh's post and I (nurse judy) wanted everyone to know that this latest news Is not necessarily bad. The trach allows the dr. to wean the oxygen and ventilator levels down easier and in smaller increments. Please keep up your hopes and prayers, as this is part of the long journey of small steps and LIsa is so determined and strong and with her team behind her nothing is impossible! Keep up those prayers and positive thoughts.
    All our love,
    Nurse Judy, Donna, and Yosie

  3. Dear Stephenson Family,
When they put the trach in for my dad, he really started to rest better. When the patient is able to rest, it helps the body to focus on getting better... at least this is what happened in our case. It was a step in the right direction when we were going through something similar. Thank you so much for the update, I was really worried. You all continue to be in my prayers!

  4. As the Dutch proverb goes, "Sickness arrives on horseback, but departs on foot," we know this is going to be a long journey. However, Lisa you are a fighter and you can do this. So many people love you and are pulling for you, stay strong.

A few steps forward, then a step back are parts of the road to recovery. Know that we are with you every step, with prayers and love as the road maps.

  9. Dear Lisa,
When there is no set schedule to count on, when things are not following any logical if-then sequence, it is so very hard to feel progress. But, overall, when your body is able to slowly make improvements, when your vitals are stable and your oxygen levels better, this is progress. We can't see you well fast enough, but be patient and strong. Your body is fighting, we are all with you, and progress will be made.
    With lots of love -
    June
